Falling Squirrels and Trees

I am spending so much time outdoors recently that I have seen squirrels falling out of trees on two consecutive days. The second day, the squirrel did not get up quickly, and I almost walked over to him before he ran for the nearest tree trunk. Another time I was outdoors and the pack was lying about fifty feet away. Suddenly a rotten tree with only a few limbs left at the top fell onto the ground, almost hitting the dogs.
